Obsidian Heating and Cooling is a veteran-owned and operated HVAC company serving Des Moines, IA and the surrounding central Iowa communities since 2009. As a Tempstar Elite Dealer, we provide residential and light commercial heating, cooling, and indoor air quality services, including:
- Central air conditioning installation, repair, and maintenance
- Ducted heat pump installation, repair, and maintenance
- Ductless mini-split installation, repair, and maintenance (LG authorized)
- Furnace installation, repair, and maintenance

- Indoor air quality solutions (air filtration, UV lights, humidifiers, dehumidifiers)
- Mobile and modular home HVAC services
- Gas piping installation and repair
- Light commercial HVAC services, including rooftop units

Service Appointments and Scheduling
When you schedule a service appointment with Obsidian Heating and Cooling, you agree to the following:

- An authorized adult (18 years or older) will be present at the service location during the scheduled appointment
- You will provide safe and reasonable access to the HVAC equipment requiring service
- Cancellations or rescheduling should be communicated at least 24 hours in advance when possible
We strive to arrive within scheduled time windows. However, service times may vary due to the complexity of prior appointments, weather, or unforeseen circumstances. 24/7 emergency service is available for urgent situations.
Pricing, Estimates & Payment
Our pricing is based on the specific services requested, equipment required, and the scope of work involved. You agree to the following payment terms:
- A detailed estimate will be provided before any work begins, and your approval is required before we proceed
- Payment is due upon completion of services unless other arrangements have been made in writing
- We accept major credit cards, checks, and cash; financing is available through approved lenders for qualifying customers
- Prices are subject to change and may vary based on equipment availability, market conditions, and scope of work
- Additional charges may apply for after-hours, weekend, or holiday emergency service calls
Any additional work beyond the original estimate will be discussed and approved by you before we proceed.
Warranties & Guarantees
Obsidian Heating and Cooling stands behind the quality of our work. Warranty terms vary by service and product:
- Manufacturer Warranties — As a Tempstar Elite Dealer, the equipment we install carries factory warranties backed directly by the manufacturer. Typical Tempstar coverage includes a 5-year compressor warranty and a 10-year parts warranty when installed by an authorized dealer. Terms vary by product line.
- Labor Warranties — We provide labor warranties on our installation and repair work. Specific terms are outlined in your service agreement or invoice.
- One Year of Free Maintenance — Every new installation includes one year of complimentary maintenance, helping preserve warranty coverage and keep your system running at peak efficiency.
- Satisfaction Guarantee — We are committed to your complete satisfaction. If you are not satisfied with our work, contact us and we will make it right.
Warranties may be void if equipment is tampered with, improperly maintained, or serviced by unauthorized personnel. Regular maintenance is recommended to preserve warranty coverage.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Obsidian Heating and Cooling, its owners, employees, and contractors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to our services or your use of our website.
